Mother who stabbed boyfriend to death in drunken rage found guilty of manslaughter for SECOND time

A mother who stabbed her partner to death has been found guilty of manslaughter for a second time - less than a year after her first conviction was quashed.

Olivia Labinjo-Halcrow, 26, was previously jailed for 18 years after she knifed boyfriend Gary Cunningham 12 times in a drunken rage at their home.

A court heard a delivery driver found the body of Mr Cunningham lying in a top floor corridor of a block of flats in Harborne, Birmingham, on February 23, 2019.

Police and ambulance raced to the scene and despite the best attempts to save him, the 29-year-old was pronounced dead.

Officers found Labinjo-Halcrow in one of the flats with a blood stained kitchen knife in the sink but told cops she had no memory of the attack.

A post-mortem examination revealed Mr Cunningham died as a result of a stab wound to his left leg.

Labinjo-Halcrow was originally cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility after a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

But in August last year she had her conviction overturned by The Court of Appeal after judges ruled she may have been acting in self-defence.

At her original trial Labinjo-Halcrow claimed she had been the victim of sexual abuse, including rape, at the hands of her victim.

But Judge Simon Drew, QC dismissed those allegations and described her as 'someone who could be bullying and manipulative and prone to lies'.

Sentencing her previously, the judge added: 'I accept the offence was not premeditated.

'I accept your relationship with Mr Cunningham was a volatile one. I do not accept it was one way.'
